Gabo was born in the Triana quarter of Aguascaliente, Mexico and began his studies in the School of Fine Arts at the age of 8. He lived and worked in Tijuana and Ciudad de Juarez where he worked in graphic design, TV commercials and published a book of poems. He traveled to Europe in 1977 and studied painting and graphic design in Madrid, Spain. After Madrid he moved to Paris where he established lasting bonds that would strengthen on subsequent trips to Europe. Gabo returned to Mexico in 1978 and moved to La Paz, which he still calls home. He set up his own graphic design and publicity studio, opened the Orsay Gallery where he organized over 200 exhibits of Mexican and foreign artists. In 1998 he created and organized the Art Festival in Todos Santos which remains one of the town’s major events.
